Tallahassee, FL – The Giovanni Vitrano Foundation proudly hosted the 2023 Gio Cup, a preseason soccer tournament that ended dramatically, with Lincoln claiming the Girls’ Cup and Maclay securing the Boys’ Championship. The event, filled with enthusiastic crowds and competitive soccer action, raised over $4,000 in college scholarships for local soccer players.
Girls’ Cup Finale:
Lincoln emerged victorious in the Girls’ Cup after a nail-biting penalty shootout against Chiles, securing the win with a 3-2 score on penalties. Both teams ended the round-robin matches on an equal footing with 4 points, setting the stage for a tense finale decided from the spot.
Boys’ Championship Triumph:
In the Boys’ Championship, Maclay showcased their prowess with a solid 3-1 victory over Leon, lifting the trophy amidst cheers from the fans. The 3rd place match saw Lincoln edge out Chiles, adding to the day’s competitive spirit.

Scholarship Applications Now Open:
In conjunction with the soccer festivities, The Giovanni Vitrano Foundation is excited to announce that applications for college scholarships are now open. Student-athletes from the Tallahassee area and neighboring counties in Florida and Georgia are invited to apply at www.gvscholarship.org/apply until January 31, 2024. $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded to the Class of ’24, including a $6,000 first prize and two runners-up for $2,000 each.
Eligible students must have a 3.2 GPA or higher and have played soccer at the Varsity High School or equivalent club level.
